What is Achilles tendon rupture/tear?

A break in the continuity of the Achilles Tendon (complete or partial) is known as an
Achilles Tendon rupture or tear.

What are the symptoms of Achilles tendon rupture/tear?

● A sudden feeling of popping.
● Sharp pain at the back and above the heel (at the Achilles tendon area).
● Redness and swelling over the area
● Tenderness over the area
● Pain might increase with bearing load on the affected ankle, or while lifting or
moving the heel in an upward or downward direction.

What are the symptoms of Achilles tendinitis?

● The sound of popping or snapping
● Intense pain over Achilles tendon area
● Pain can be very sharp, increasing after activity
● There can be stiffness and tenderness over the affected area
● Inability to raise heels, stand on toes on the affected foot
● Pain increases on any movement of the affected side ankle

What happens during consultation at BILD Exercise Clinic?

noted.
● A record of previous treatments tried will be noted.
● Strength differences of different muscles around the knee joint will be
analysed.
● Previous reports (if any) such as MRI and USG will also be seen and
discussed.
